Reggae and dancehall artiste signed on Global One Records, Episode is advocating for dancehall artistes to write songs which will have positive impact on listeners. The 2014 BASS Awards nominee speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers advised dancehall artistes to compose songs which will live forever.
“If the artiste wants his name to last for few months and die off or live forever, it depends on the kind of songs he releases. If the artiste wants to be a legend and leave legacies like Bob Marley, Osibisa and others did then he has to make sense in his songs. Why do you think Bob Marley is referred to as living legend, this is because his songs can be adjusted to our daily lives”.
He added that dancehall artistes can release ‘party’ songs but with good lyrics.
“The business side is where we do the party songs and the others but we can still do songs which will be celebrated every year and even if we are not alive, it will still be there. It can be party song but if you have good lyrical content, it will last forever”
“We can still have the party vibes but the lyrics should be clean. I don’t encourage the suck your mother and all those kind of stuffs. We are growing and people will come after us so we should be try our best with our lyrics”
He revealed on the Weekend Mix show last Saturday that though some people tag reggae and dancehall artistes as “wee” smokers, he doesn’t smoke; neither is he affected by the perception.
Christened Theophilus Nii Ardey Otoo Junior, Episode has been nominated for Record of the year, Best Collaboration, Dancehall song of the year categories at this year’s BASS Awards slated for August 30.
