We just heard that Solid FM in Kumasi has been shut down by Vodafone for not paying them for hosting their transmitter on their pole. According to our informant, the radio station is owing the telecommunication Gh50,000. He added that management of the station approached Vodafone to pay GH20,000 on Wednesday after the station was shut down and pleaded for them to be put back on air but Vodafone did not heed to their plea.
He added that Vodafone has asked them to pay the full amount left before they are allowed to go on air. On Wednesday evening, a former worker at the station formerly known as KFM posted on Facebook that the station has been shut down.
Calls made through to a worker at the station whose name cannot be mentioned said the station is off due to technical hitches.
Shortly after Isaac wrote about the sad news on his facebook page, DJ Slim who just moved from Solid FM to YFM in Kumasi also shared what he has heard about the station on his Facebook page.
We are told that Vodafone started operation three days ago by shutting down radio stations in Kumasi who are owing them but Solid FM is the only station which was off as at press time.
