From stages across the country, speaking in both Nigerian and Ghanaian tongues, Jacinta impacts and drills her ever thrilling and memorable jokes into the ribs of her eager and insatiable audience.

Interacting with her at the recently organized Ghana Tertiary Awards where she excited the house with jokes about personalities such as Yemi Aladey, Kaly Bos, Itz Tiffany, Sarkodie, including today’s economic climate, irresistibly, radio presenter, Elvis Crystal of Radio XYZ 93.1fm’s Drive time fame, posed a few fun and fascinating questions to her in a short on-the-spot interview, about her breakthrough, the industry, comedy ethics, motivation, love life and more.

Enjoy the conversation below…

Elvis: WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR PROFESSION?

Jacinta: I love this professional journey a lot, it gives me an avenue to put laughter on the faces of people, and it’s like a boomerang effect, am happy when they are happy

Elvis: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THIS?

Jacinta: Well I’ve been on the comedy path for 5yrs. It has been fun and hard work

Elvis: HOW DOES YOUR PARENTS RELATE TO YOU BEING A COMMEDIENE?

Jacinta: haha well honestly, my parents are proud of me. They even give me jokes sometimes

Elvis: HAHAHA SOUNDS LIKE IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY?

Jacinta: Heheehe yea, it does…

Elvis: HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE COMEDY?

Jacinta: Comedy is life. Comedy is a natural medicine Comedy is communication; everyone needs it and can’t do without it. What’s the world to be without the healing sound of laughter?

Elvis: HOW WOULD YOU RELATE TO THE SCHOOL OF THOUGHT THAT “GOD IS A COMEDIAN”?

Jacinta:  Hahahahahahaha I’m sure he is. He makes us happy all the time. I think He should create more comics, the world is too sad you know …

Elvis: BEING THE ONLY COMMEDIENNE IN GHANA, HOW DID YOU BREAK INTO THE INDUSTRY?

Jacinta: Well one faithful day, I met David Oscar who took me to Comedy Bar, and the feedback was good. Before then I had been on GH ONES LOL GH, Nite of Comedy at Aphrodisiac and that charted the journey of endless rib-cracking moments

Elvis: HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE THE ONLY FEMALE COMIC IN GHANA WITH A NIGERIAN DECENT?

Jacinta: I feel honored and blessed, it’s no particularly easy but the passion, self discipline, hard-work and determination makes it all easy; I always get the surprise face when people hear I’m a comedienne. Others say I look too calm or too pretty to be a fool hahahah, you know some also think it’s the Nigerian part of me that’s being dominant. But the truth is, I love what I Do, I feel challenged to be the only female because I know a lot of eyes are on me and the expectations are very high so, it makes me work very hard

Elvis: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS YOU DO TO FEEL READY PRIOR TO A SHOW?

Jacinta: First of all, I find out what the show is about, and the kind of people who will be attending. I pick a very comfortable costume that makes me feel very free and hehehehee other crazy things you can imagine

Elvis: DO YOU EVER GET STAGE FRIGHT & HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH TELLING A JOKE THAT DOESN’T CUT FUNNY?

Jacinta: Stage fright? No no-no, Before I perform on any platform, I find out who my audience are. This gets me into character and that’s how I eliminate the fright.

Elvis: SO FAR HOW MANY STAGES HAVE YOU MOUNTED, AND WHICH WAS THE MOST HILARIOUS EXPERIENCE YOU COULD RECOUNT?

Jacinta: Oh I’ve mounted quite a number of stages and they have all been hilarious

I try to create jokes that tally with the event and the people, current events and all. Yeah so by God’s grace all were hilariously memorable.

Elvis: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR LATEST PERFORMANCES?

Jacinta: Comedy Bar and we just finished the most anticipated Ghana Tertiary Awards, which went great. I’m humbled to be serenaded with lots of congratulatory compliments from the attendees professing that I stole the night. I even got a shout out from our very own Ahuof3 Patri, and her’s was the cherry on top hehehe.

Elvis: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 2 YEARS IN THE COMEDY INDUSTRY?

Jacinta: I see myself being rated as one of the biggest entertainers in Africa and the world, with God in the boat; I shall fear no waves or tides.

Elvis: WHATS YOUR BIGGEST MOTIVATION IN A MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY?

Jacinta: The fact that I’m the only female motivates me a lot. It drives me to be focused and determined to always bring out the best in me in order to pave the way for other aspiring female comics

Elvis: DO YOU HAVE COLLEAGUE COMICS THAT YOU ADMIRE AND WHY?

Jacinta: I admire all my colleagues because they are unique in their own different ways….

Foster is very naughty

DKB is a late comer

Khemikal is scientific

James brown is seriously foolish

The list is endless

Elvis: DO YOU EVER GET SCARED WHEN PICKING ON FAMOUS PEOPLE?

Jacinta: Errrm no, not at all, I don’t get scared at all because its humor, entertainment and all fun, even the personalities I pick on end up laughing endlessly than the audience.

Elvis: WHAT ARE YOU LIKELY TO DO AFTER A GREAT SHOW?

  1. WALK LAUGH
  2. SLEEP LAUGH
  3. TALKING TO YOUR SELF THEN LAUGH

Jacinta: C. talking to myself then laugh so loud, I do that always when am stringing my materials together

Elvis: WHAT DO YOU DO ON A NORMAL NO-SHOW DAY?

Jacinta: Since I’m still a student, I try to do my school work. Sometimes I just watch movies, I love dancing too, plus I sing along to some tunes I love, am a simple girl you know….aside that I practice my new comic addition on my mom and brother as well as few friends

Elvis: IS IT TRUE THAT MOST COMICS HAVE THE MOST EXCITING-NO-DULL MOMENT IN LIFE EVER?

Jacinta: Hahahaha. I dunno how true that is but as for me, I have moments when I just wanna be alone. But I’m a very happy person, it doesn’t take much to get my teeth flashing, but as a comic, you need to experience all forms of emotions to draw your material from, which would help you affect your audience positively deeply.

Elvis: WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR CRAZY DO’S ON STAGE?

Jacinta: OMG hehehe I remember one time I had to lie on the floor to perform, it was a crazy comic stunt. It was aired on GTV and since then my lecturers haven’t stopped using it to make jest of me

Elvis: APART FROM COMEDY WHAT DO HAVE UP YOUR SLEEVES?

Jacinta: Apart from comedy, I do other things, every one watch out for Jacinta, watch out for the brand because it’s gonna take Ghana by surprise, I could be hosting a show on TV, Hosting on radio ,On your occasion as an EmCee or even drop a single, who knows? Anything can happen

Elvis: DO YOU THINK THERE SHOULD BE A COMEDY SCHOOL TO TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO BE FUNNY?

Jacinta: Comedy should not be taught in schools because being able to make people laugh is a grace, its an innate ability, its natural, it’s a gift, its priceless, one cannot achieve it by learning to be funny, that’s ridiculous.

Elvis: YOU WOULD MAKE FUN OF EVERYTHING EXCEPT? AND WHY?

Jacinta: OK hands down, seriously, I respect people’s beliefs so I try not to go into religion and politics. But when I have to, I do subtly. As long as it’s not offensive, I don’t make fun of handicaps and less fortunate. In fact I’ve never made fun of them. They need to be encouraged and inspired to face another day.

Elvis: WITH A LOT OF TERRORISM AND SHEER CALLOUSNESS IN THE WORLD TODAY, DO YOU THINK THE WORLD NEEDS MORE COMMEDIANS, AND HOW WOULD IS HELP?

Jacinta: The world needs more comedy. Laughter they say, is the best medicine . So in the midst of all the chaos of the world, we pray to God for peace and also use laughter to ease tension, heal broken hearts, unite homes, families and the world at large. I believe all comics are natural doctors, so we need more creative platforms to touch lives and heal wounds.

Elvis: BEING THE FIRST FEMALE COMIC IN GHANA, HOW WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE THE INDUCTION FEMALE COMICS INTO THE INDUSTRY AND WHY?

Jacinta: If you are a female out there and you want to be a stand up comedienne, don’t do it because Jacinta is doing it oh. Do it because you have the talent, passion, and you are willing to excel in it, the best works are not motivated by the pursuit of money or fame or deadline. Your strongest art will be hard on you in its creation. Physically taxing and emotionally consuming. You want to claim you die a little death at the end which is heavily rewarding in the long term. Push hard, don’t quite.

Elvis: GIVE US A SELF DESCRIPTION, FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED TO VISUALIZE YOU

Jacinta: I’m just a short girl, super curvy with big eye balls, U can easily identify me in town with my shades on. I love sneakers a lot so u could spot me even though I’m not tall hahaha, my favorite hair style is zigzag, my lipstick depends on my mood and what I’m wearing, I’m a perfume freak too so you can smell me from miles away, I also love wearing male wrist watches, as you can see

Elvis: ARE YOU LOVING SOMEONE?

Jacinta: oh yes I am, and it’s confidential

Elvis: YOU MEAN CONFIDENTIAL IS HIS NAME?

Jacinta: hahahaha oh Noo, It’s my private matter, moreover he has been very supportive and adorable, thats all hehehe no more comments

Elvis: COULD YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA HANDLES?

Jacinta: shout to all peeps and my growing fans base, you can hit me up on my Facebook page: Heiress Jacinta,

Instagram: heiress_jacintah

Ermm my Twitter has been suspended oh. Dunno why but I’m working on it

Elvis: GIVE US YOUR LAST WORDS

Jacinta:  Eiiih Elvis hehehe No last words oo. I’m not planning to die soon…hahahaha, just kidding though, well I’d like to thank all the colleagues I work with in the industry, thanks to all my fans who have strong jaws and durable ribs to withstand my jokes, This year is promisingly positive, let’s all go with God

Elvis: AWESOME, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME JACINTA, I WISH YOU ALL THE GODLY BEST THIS YEAR, HAPPY NEW YEAR AND KEEP GOD IN ALL YOU DO.
