A heavy rain storm that hit parts of Accra on Saturday evening has collapsed the University of Ghana’s students’ market popularly known as the ‘night market’.
According to eye witnesses, the roofing members of the makeshift structure that served as stalls for food vendors were stomped out of the ground and dislocated.
A female vendor who was taking refuge under the shed at the time of the storm was reportedly hit by one of the flying roofing sheet and sustained serious injuries however is currently receiving emergency treatment at the University hospital.
The night market which serves as a food vending and general provisions point for the tens of thousands of university students and staff has seen no rehabilitation since its construction some five years ago.
