Each year, some Ghanaians express their displeasure about Ghana Music Awards whenever the nominees for the awards are announced. This year’s is not exceptional, many artistes and entertainment critics have communicated their feeling of disapproval.
Kumasi-based music producer and sound engineer, Dan Bassy has lamented that the awards ceremony has sidelined Kumasi artites based in Kumasi. Speaking to Dave Hammer on Despite Group of Company’s Hello FM, the producer of Kofi B’s hit song “Bantama Kwasi Booakye” said Charterhouse, organisers of the awards favour artistes based in the capital city of Ghana than their colleagues in other parts of the country. He said the favoritism is showcased In each year’s awards.
He added that he is not worried about not winning awards.
Gospel musician Anita Afriyie weeks ago alleged that Kumasi-based artistes are always marginalized when it comes to major music awards, particularly the Ghana Music Award.
