This is a list compiled by Luv FM’s Private Party Entertainment
Over the years there have been darling boys and girls of the Ghana Music Industry, some we still see and others, sadly gone MIA on us (those who don’t know MIA should start watching a lot of American spy movies. It means ‘missing in action). This list is to serve as a wakeup call to the sleeping ones but to the dead ones, we say Rest in Peace. However, we limit our list to just rappers ad not the entire category of musicians since there’ll be over 100 names to include in that list. Watch out for our list of Top 10 Musicians who have fallen from grace to grass in GH which will feature on the Private party in coming weeks, but today, we give you the list of top 10 RAPPERS who have fallen from grace to grass. We call them: from -ish to sssss.
Taking the 10th spot on our list is ‘fly, fly oo fly’ man C-Zar. Many are those who deemed him a whack rapper, nevertheless he made it. He had some hit singles which endeared him to many music lovers. He actually won a GMA with his single; ‘Araba Lawson’ which became a hit single. He featured Pastor All4Real and many other big names in the game in 2006/2007 on his album which bore the same name as his hit single Araba Lawson. How can we also forget ‘Mercy Lokko’ but sadly C-Zar has faded into thin air in the industry.
9. Praye Tenten (Nana Kwame)
This guy blew us away with his captivating style of Ga rap. For me, he was the best among the trio which swept so many awards in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 including a KORA award for being the best group in West Africa. He always introduced a unique and beautiful twist to their songs and was undoubtedly a good rapper but after the split of the group, Praye Tenten has failed to make it back and your guess is as good as mine: Where is he?
8. Stay JAY
He broke onto the scene with so much in store and churned out a few hits; most prominently the song that almost every youth was singing or dancing to some 4 years ago; ‘Shashee wowo’. He bagged a GMA as the best new artiste. He proved to Ghanaians he was good rapper judging from his style and flow but……you know the rest. Not long ago, he released ‘Wo to mpo ni’ with Lil Win but sadly, his rap ability fell way below par on that. Stay Jay; RIP (Return If Possible).
7. Quata
Sometime back, he was arguably the most versatile rapper in the game. He rapped perfectly in Twi, English, did hiphop, hiplife and reggae at some point. His rap was deep and worth one’s time but guess he couldn’t stay around long enough to witness another revolution in the game.
6. Eazzy
At one point in the life of the game, she was touted as the queen of rap, nicknamed; the first lady of Lynxx. She gave out hits like ‘Wengeze’ and ‘Bo Wonsam Mame’ but it appears a while after her BBA show, the queen has sadly slept. It is worth mention though that she tried to woo us back with some singles but, the struggle is real. Eazzy takes our 6th spot on the top 10 -ish to sssss rappers.
5. Nana Boroo
At number five we have, the ‘aha y3 d3′ and ‘bebiaa soso’ hitmaker; B-Ross aka: Ka s3 Vim aka: Nana Boroo who we may duly classify as a rapper cum singer. He was a toast back then but he just lost out. Guess he didn’t have enough firepower in his arsenal to stand the tides of the game.
4. Bradez
Well, call it what you may but we are not leaving any of the duo out. We think they deserve the 4th spot because the Bradez franchise has seen better days. Flowking Stone on his own is still not there yet though they are a few songs which may yet mark his full comeback onto the rap scene if they are properly promoted. They were at the very top sometime back; sweeping GMA’s, performing at every big event and been heard everywhere but now….gone with the wind. We do acknowledge that the past few years has not been a smooth terrain for them especially Kunta but we do hope the best of them is yet to be seen in this cruel game.
3. Asem
I was arguing with the team that Asem deserves the number 1 spot but I guess they won. He is the C.E.O of WBDN records and was the ish even before Sarkodie saw the light. He won the awards, the hearts, the applauses and performed at the shows but his reign came too quickly to an end. Bad reportage, some accusations, controversy and his exit from Lynxx Entertainment are perhaps a few of the reasons to blame for the dip in Asem’s successes. We heard ‘Bye Bye’ which made it and we all hoped he would cement his way back in but the game had other plans and the one time Prince of Rap in Ghana Music has been given the exit as it seems. Let’s observe a minute silence for this golden boy. ‘Give me blow’, ‘Pigaro’, ‘Carolina’, ‘Check your weight’, ‘No more kpayor'; yep, that’s how ‘golden’ Asem was in his heydays.
2. Papi (5.5)
Papi of 5.5 fame takes our 2nd spot. This guy had it; the swag, the looks, the appeal and you know, the girls, sadly though he didn’t have the ‘capa’ and has fallen off the rails completely. With the group’s hit; Mugye Baya, he became the talk of the rap circles and continued to impress with his mixture of English and French rap which we must admit made him quite a unique rapper. Unfortunately, Papi is nowhere to be found in the game now. We hope he makes his way back from Adabraka or the pit into which he has fallen.
1. D-Chryme
The one man whose exit from the rap scene is still much talked about is D-Chryme. His success, while it lasted during his ‘tenure’ as the darling boy in the game was probably unparalleled and his exit, till now, is still the saddest. How the hell did he fade out so quickly? What happened?!! Subsequent attempts to get back in have failed woefully. Even Samsung’s ambassadorship could not do the trick! His biggest hit; ‘Kill Me Shy’ will still remain that song that changed the game for the good. D-Chryme paved the way for the era of Twi-pop. We salute him for this feat but most importantly, we pray that a comeback is possible for the smooth singer/ rapper who stole our hearts with his catch ‘Releleleoo.oo’.
We cannot conclude without mentioning a few others who we are still looking for in the game despite the struggle; Reggie Zippy, Tinny, Obour, O.J Blaq, Asaase Aban, Captain Planet, Lousika, Okyeame Kwame.
