Rapper Desmond Kwesi Blackmore aka D-Black is on radio tour promoting his new single “Shaminogbo” which features BET award-winner Stonebwoy. The rapper on Happy FM in Accra touching on whether he is making money or not in the music industry said “we are comfortable”. When host of the show said “ I think you don’t need royalties with the lot of things we are hearing”, D-Black replied him saying that “I’m not speaking for just me”
He continued with the sad story of how he met his in-house music producer D.J Breezy
“There is this young guy who works in my studio. He is signed to Black Avenue, DJ Breezy. When I met DJ Breezy, I don’t think he even had Gh100 to his name. Somebody brought him to the studio and sometimes he wouldn’t be able to go back home, he lived in Tema and he will sleep on the studio floor when everybody had closed.
When everybody closes, this guy will turn on the studio equipment and make beats and when you wake up the next day and you come, he will play them for you. It’s been three years. A year after I met him, he got producer of the year nomination at Ghana Music Awards and the year after he won.
He has about twelve hit songs that are playing on the radio in a space of one year. He comes from a poor family. He came from the village”
D-Black further asked “why are you keeping his royalties?”
