I’m currently at Tamale with the Miss Ghana audition team searching for that beautiful and intelligent Ghanaian lady to represent us at this year’s Miss World competition but I have to write this. I hardly watch TV so I decided to take time off to see what goes on our stations in Ghana and its sad.

Day1-TamaleArrival-01.09.15-10560

As I took the remote of the LG TV set at Global Dream Service Apartment, where we are lodging in Tamale to check out whats happening on TV, I realised that there are over 50 TV stations in the country. Many Ghanaians have always been crying for many TV stations in our country since I was in class one because we had to watch Kwabena Yeboah in his big coat every Monday on GTV whether you liked it or not because we had no option. I was happy to find out that we have these number of stations in our country but one question which hurriedly came in mind was “how many of them are providing good content?”

To find answers to this question, I skipped the market activation stage for Miss Ghana 2015 audition to watch TV today, September 3 and I was shocked. Most of the new digital TV stations were playing foreign gospel songs, something I have no problem with because they might be testing their machines. I realised that some of the stations are devoted for church services and that is also not bad – preaching and prophetic ministration 24/7, that is good for a nation like Ghana but the production is what should be talked about and that will be later because I saw one colourful set where a pastor was seated preaching that I wasn’t even seeing the preacher’s face but just the colours around him.

Let me move straight to the reason why I decided to write this short observation. As I was changing from one station to the other not knowing which of them to watch, I finally decided to watch TV Gold (the first time hearing the name) because of the music videos they were showing and I was surprised at what I saw. TV Gold played Shatta Wale’s collaborated “Wine Ya Waist” song with Davido and I couldn’t believe my eyes. They put Shatta Wale’s picture on the screen with the song playing at the background. “When did people start showing YouTube on TV?” that is the question I asked myself. Is it compulsory to play Shatta’s Wine Ya Waist if there is no video for the song? is that the only hit song Shatta Wale has? C’mon, TV Gold could have done better.

Ah! I’m finding it very difficult to understand this! Is it compulsory to play Shatta Wale and Davido’s song on TV if you’re not getting the music video? This TV station putss Shatta’s pic on their screen with the song playing at the background with no motion. Due to this thing I saw on TV Gold, I decided to change the channel to find other interesting programmes to watch but little did I know that I was jumping from frying pan to fire with what I saw on Royal TV. Again, I stopped to watch Royal TV because of the music videos they were showing but it looks like they not check the content of the music videos before they put them on air. As high as the sun was scotching at 2pm, they decided to play Drake’s “Worst Behaviour” song which has countless swear words. I thought the video they were about playing was edited but the “f” and other swear words were left intact to showing during that time.  As if that was not enough, the next song they played after Drake’s “Worst Behaviour” also had swear words.

Playing this song on TV? Ei Ghanaian stations

What is happening to Ghana? Is the National Media Commission aware of all these contents making waves on our TV stations? I will not be surprised to see one TV station devoted for blue movies since TV stations are showing anything they want.

I wish these TV Stations will give us good content as the ones found on analogue are doing. I’m off to continue Miss Ghana audition, I will let you know whatever happens here in Tamale.
