One of the numerous reasons why most gospel songs are not found on online media is because of copyright. Most gospel artistes earn from the sales of their music being it in the form of compact disc (CD) or cassette hence their decision not to publish it online. One DJ by name Ashmen has mixed almost all the hit songs which were released in the year 2013 in one compilation dishing it out to the public for free is in trouble for such act. Report by Flexghana.com indicates that chief executive officer of Media Excel Kwesi Ernest and OJ is preparing to take this DJ to court for for such an unlawful act.
One of the youngest radio DJ`s of our time who is popularly known as DJ Ashmen is in hot waters for putting together what he calls Ashmen For Christ Mix Tape volume one. The mix tape is 1hour:15minutes collection of some of the hottest gospel tunes in our industry.
Flex newspaper reporters chanced on this mix tape on social media website Facebook and downloaded it for our listening pleasure only to realize that it was one loaded with troubles and displeasure. Talking to music producer and chief executive officer of Media Excel Kwesi Ernest on Flex on Pluzz aired on Pluzz fm last Sunday, he told the host Sammy Flex that he does not have knowledge of anybody using their songs on a mix tape.
“I don’t know anybody called DJ Ashmen or whoever you are talking about who has gotten that courage to use my artiste`s songs on his mix tape. Which radio station does he work for and how does he even look like? What I want him and anybody listening to me right now to know is that, I am not going to just arrest him in this case. I will be prosecuting him in a court of law and he will pay a serious penalty for stealing our works. If he thinks we need promotion of any sort, then he should come again because when we were recording the album, he did not come anywhere to support us financially. I will make sure he is uprooted from any where he will be hiding and I promise to do this with my last energy to set a good example for people who want to do this to desist from this criminal act” Kwesi Ernest told Flex on Pluzz host Sammy Flex.
The Ashmen for Christ Mixtape is 1hour 15minutes long with a compilation of some hit songs from popular gospel musicians like Willie and Mike, Joyce Blessing, O.J. Obaapa Christi and many more. According to the radio DJ who failed to speak to Flex on Pluzz last Sunday because he was threatened by the producer and the musician, he did the compilation with the intention of promoting the songs on the album because he has been doing that for the secular musicians in the industry.
Musician O.J also added his voice on the show that “he sees what the DJ has done as a criminal activity and that no one should make this a long case, but an arrest and a prosecution with immediate effect. Where was he when my producer Cebex was spending money in the production of the album for him to put together a mix tape for free downloads. He needs to be arrested in every corner that he is hiding right now” O.J added.
DJ Ashmen is yet to make a statement on the issue and we hope to publish that as soon as practicable when he gathers enough courage to do that.
