Jessica Opare Saforo, Others Fire Kennedy Agyapong

jessica saforoThe show-down between the controversial Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong and the self-styled radio presenter, Afia Schwarzenegger took a different twist last week as both parties decided to settle scores in the “gutters.”

The level of vituperation that was churned out by both parties is completely unprintable.

Pundits of Ghana’s most popular entertainment review programme on TV, Celebrity Fanzone, also took their turns in condemning what they described as, “dishonorable display by a supposed honorable man.”

Guest panelist Soraya Riley was first to express her views on this controversy. Describing the whole debacle as disgusting; she insisted that the radio station should take less blame for the actions of the radio presenter.

“Over the years, she has built a career from being known as a“sharp-tongued” person- which is good business for many radio stations, rather I am very disappointed in the honorable member of parliament, if I say to my kids this is a honorable member of parliament, I expect him to behave as such,” she decried.

Outspoken regular host, Jessica Opare Saforo, did not also mince words in condemning the MP. In an attempt to shed more light on what normally takes place behind production scenes at various media houses, Jessica maintained that TV producers have a lot more control over presenters than radio producers.

Jessica, who doubles as a radio presenter of Accra-based Citi FM, stated that, contrary to what happens during TV productions, many radio presenters decide how the show goes; contending that it would have been very difficult to have stopped the presenter as the insults came in.

Despite Group of Companies are tight-lipped as to whether they have sanctioned their presenter whose services are in high demand by many leading media houses.

In a statement last week, the radio station expressed their regret for what transpired and also apologized to the MP and the general public for their employee’s conduct.

It is also uncertain whether the Parliament of Ghana would do anything about the MP’s utterances especially at a time when everybody seems fixated on the murder of Hon J. B. Danquah

During the show, Akosua Hanson obviously exasperated about the whole controversy brought in a new twist. She queried, “Why should people attack the person of a female when there is any form of heated exchange. …Can’t people simply stick to the issues without attacking the ‘feminine side’ of ladies?” “I really think the MP got it is so wrong,” she added.

Beautiful Chantelle Asante, who dazzled everybody after a short musical interlude with her seductive comments, “I am in the mood,” was also in the mix. “I am appalled and disgusted by all this. I could not believe some of the words that were used,” she stated. “To my amazement, many people seem to be following Afia especially after I monitored the YouTube ratings of her video,” she added.

The National Media Commission in a statement last week also condemned the exchanges between the duo.

In the statement, the NMC described their behavior as part of a growing disregard for decency and good standards of behavior in the media.

Do you think the NMC should have done more instead of simply condemning the behavior of both the MP and the presenter?

Should Kennedy Agyapong be sanctioned by parliament?

Should Afia be sanctioned by her employers?

Listen to brawl between Afia and Kennedy below:

Musicians Don’t Respect Music Video Directors – Pascal Aka

$

pascal akaAce Actor/Director, Pascal Aka has described as awful the disrespect showed to video directors by some musicians in their quest to have their music/movie videos done at a faster pace.

“Most music video directors in Ghana are not being respected by their clients who wants their low budgeted videos at a quicker time.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Breakthrough Media Productions outlined that the major challenge that curtail film director’s work on a particular music video is how several significant artists in Ghana opt for a low budget visuals.

Adding that though directors play important role as key stakeholders to give good quality visual effects in the music, sound engineers have a part to play in ensuring high-quality sound.

Speaking on Pluzz FM Monday, the filmmaker reiterated that most musicians in Ghana impose their recommendations on directors on what they prefer particularly on the type of camera and costumes to use on set for their music video although it seems difficult to acquire them and also obstruct the work of most directors when strained to purchase tools they have not budgeted for.

Reacting to Ghanaian Dancehall singer, Shatta Wale’s recent comment on his facebook page  about some video editors who delay their music videos though they have been sorted out, he said it’s unfortunate how some directors have turned the profession as  sole person’s business handling all aspects of the work without employing more hands to speed up activities.

He also noted that about eighty percent (80%) of Ghanaian Musicians do not want to patronize expensive music videos because their budget for the music video usually does not meet the require standards to execute good quality videos.

When asked about the rules of engagement between the music video director and the client (Artist), he stated that for a mutual agreement, the client is supposed to pay the first installment for the director to commence on the video shoot and also pay the second installment when the video is completed.

Pascal said most music video directors prioritize the kind of music videos they want to do which delays the singer from releasing his video on time.

The director of VVIP’s ‘DogoYaro’ song added that though visual delivery on the agreed time also impede music videos from being premiered on a speculated date, directors should not compromised on the agreement made between his production and the client.

“Though some directors prioritize the kind of music videos and time of delivery for their client, I personally do mine on the agreed time. Some factors can impede the music videos from being released but the set time of delivery should not be compromised by the director.

“Sometimes Location for video shoot is also a challenge looking at the limitations when the budget (expenditure) of your client is not enough to allow you to go to a far location to shoot the video.

“Ghanaian musicians also compare themselves with other foreign singers’ video but their budget is not enough to cater for such works, he added.”

After a prolonged absence from the music video scene, ace actor and producer, Pascal Aka has gathered seven (7) nominations at the 2014 Ghana Movie Awards with the feature film “Double-Cross” and the popular short film “Ghana Police”.

Also his critically acclaimed “Mr.Q”, starring Jeffrey Forson, won the award for “Best Short Film” at the Accra Francophone Film Festival. In addition, Cwesi Oteng’s “Count your blessings” music video won Best Gospel Video at the 4syte TV Music Video Awards.

I Could Have Sued Airtel Ghana If…– TV Presenter Kwame Gyan

kwame gyanTwo years ago, Airtel Ghana was compelled to suspend its Brands and Communication manager, Kwame Gyan over a supposedly violent comment he posted on his private Facebook page. A line from that post which read ‘I wish we had guts like the people of Ukraine’ generated several criticisms in 2014 with many calling for the head of the former employee of Airtel Ghana.

The comment by Kwame Gyan coincided with the period of the Ukrainian revolution of dignity in February 2014, marked by series of violent events involving protesters, riot police, and unknown shooters which culminated in the ousting of the democratically-elected President, Viktor Yanukovych. Critics of Kwame Gyan’s comment at the time felt that the Airtel Ghana Employee was calling for a coup in Ghana.

In an interview on ‘The Big X Show’, hosted by Real Eugene on Radio Univers, the former Brands and Communication manager of Airtel Ghana revealed that he would have gone ahead to sue the Telecommunications Company had he been sacked over the post on his private Facebook Page.

‘Airtel were being compelled to do what they were doing… But if they had sacked me, I would have sued.’

‘I was told by a very good lawyer that if I had sued, it could have made me so much money that I could retire and not work for the rest of my life’, Kwame Gyan continued.

The outspoken blogger added that he declined the numerous invitations for interviews to save the brand of Airtel Ghana at that time.

‘I kept on getting request for interviews. Everybody called for an interview, the BBC called as well. I told my MD that if I talk, it is going to get the situation worse. So I wasn’t going to do any interviews. I will say nothing about this.’

The communications professional indicated that he was delighted when Airtel Ghana drew and implemented a Social Media Policy after the hullabaloo over his post on Facebook which had Ghanaians talking for weeks.

‘As at that point in time, Airtel didn’t have a Social Media Policy. Because of me they drew up one. I kinda felt good.’

Two years on, Kwame Gyan has resigned as the Brands and Communications Manager of Airtel Ghana. He has now moved to Global Media Alliance and taken up the role of Head of Brands Communication and Marketing. Aside this role, the high profile blogger will also be the Host of E.TV Ghana’s news and current affairs show, ‘State Of The Nation’

mercy asiedu Kumawood actress, Mercy Asiedu, has dismissed rumours making the rounds that she had endorsed President John Dramani Mahama and will be campaigning for the NDC.

The rumours emerged after the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, recently met some movie makers in Kumasi to brief them on measures the government is putting in place to shape the industry.

After the said meeting, rumours started flying that key persons like Michael Ola, FIPAG PRO, Samuel Darko, the CEO of Kumawood, Mercy Asiedu among others had allegedly endorsed President John Mahama and would be part of the NDC campaign trail.

But, Mercy Asiedu on Adom Entertainment Hall with Mike’2′ said, she had not made any such endorsement.

“As an actress, my work cuts across, l make everybody happy through acting and also l serve every government irrespective of the political affiliation. l work for every political party who comes to power to lead the country”, she said.

She said the same issue was raised four years ago when she and other film makers met the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo for a meeting.

“After the meeting l was everywhere in the news that l have now joined the elephant party which was not the purpose of the said meeting”, she noted.

She has therefore urged all, particularly her fans not to pay attention to anyone with such information.

Guru Blames Incompetent Leaders For The Country’s Hardship

guruOver the years we have been entertained, educated, inspired by the songs of Guru. Guru one of the most creative musical minds of our time since hitting the lime light has use the day to day events and our way of  life to generate different and new street terminologies, jargons each time he drops a single.

Now the award winning hit maker has turned his attention toward parliament with his new single, “Law of Karma”.

Guru’s law of Karma is a social, political song which hits on an important issue such as the failure of politicians to deliver on their promise after they have been elected to office.

Guru speaking passionately about the song and his inspiration behind it, he had this to say;

“I have been blessed enough to travel to most part of the world and during my travels I have witness countries with half of what we have develop so well, meanwhile we have been blessed with everything from water resources, timber to gold and still most of our people live in adverse poverty.

And as a country we beg from countries that don’t have half of what we have been blessed with.

Yes, we all have a role to play, but most of the work relies on the people who are at the helm of affairs, the men and women we elect to lead and guide our country to prosperity.

But in our case instead of prosperity most of our countries direction seems to be heading to poverty.

Every four years we elect leaders to represent us in governmental position and most the time we do so based on the promises they make to us.

And like the Law of Karma states, what goes around comes around.

Four years just went by and it’s time for another national election, but this time we won’t vote based on politicians promises, but their works they have done over the four year period.

That is what the “Law Of Karma” song is all about. It speaks the mind of the people

Finally,

I would kindly advise the people of Ghana to vote for the right people that can lead the country in the right directions, to prosper not to vote base on political or family affiliations so we get the right people to lead our country to riches, development and prosperity.”

Kindly listen to the song
