Musician requesting GHAMRO executives tenure of office be increased

Some members of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation, GHAMRO are requesting that years given to executives of the organization to serve in office be increased from two to four. According to these persons, the two years given to GHAMRO executives does not allow them to implement their plans for the organization. In view of that, they plead that the constitution which mandates executives to serve two years be changed to enable the elected executives implement their plans during their tenure of office.

This concern was raised on Tuesday, February 23 in Kumasi when GHAMRO organized stakeholder’s meeting at Cultural Center.

GHAMRO chairman, Kojo Antwi reacting to the increment in thiere tenure of office said he is ready to serve the organization regardless of the number of years given him by the constitution. He stated that he will not be in office “even a day after my tenure of office is due.”

He continued that “if its two or four years, I won’t be in office even a day after that stipulated time”.

Musicians who attended the one day seminar were also educated on the benefits of digital marketing.

I Will Quench Shatta Wale And Samini’s Lyrical War – Kwaw Kese

kwaw keseThe “King of the Streets” he calls himself, Kwaw Kese, has sent a big warning to Shatta Wale and Samini.
Kwaw Kese who is set to release his new album “Forever” March 2016 says, Shatta Wale and Samini are just making plenty noise but he will shut down both artistes on the #FreedomConcert2016 starting from Kumasi at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium right down to La Pleasure Beach.
The ‘lyrical war’ by Samini and Shatta Wale recently has generated a lot controversy ahead of their March 2016 concerts. We are sure this was the reason why Kwaw Kese wants to prove to both artistes that he still holds the ‘street credibility’ and sure to be the wildest perform at Freedom Concert.
Kwaw Kese has been very busy this year with his prison project feeding inmates at the Nsawam Prison during Valentine’s Day and creating more awareness about caring for and giving more attention to inmates at the country’s various prisons. He has come to win the hearts of many fans more than ever. Like the way he does his own thing, the “Abodam” man can pull some surprises again at the Freedom Concert. Well, fingers are crossed to see what Kwaw Kese can prove over Shatta Wale and Samini.
Freedom Concert which is on the 2nd year running will be played at 2 venues this year – Kumasi at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on March 5 and in Accra at La Pleasure Beach on March 6. Organizers of the event is ReflectsGh.

Album Review: Lil Shaker’s “Captain Hook” Crowns Him As The King Of Hooks

$

Lil Shaker - Captain Hook albumOver the past few years, Phillip Yaw Atiemo aka Lil Shaker has received a lot of backlashes and mutinied for living his God’s given attitude – being that quiet, humble, calm and reserved dude. But he figures out that the only and best way an artiste can connect, interact, retaliate and make their intentions known is through records thus, he hooks up with the booth and cooks a delicious 16-track debut album dubbed “Captain Hook”.

To face the reality and prove to haters what he is made of, Shaker forms an experienced troop (E.L, Spiky, Joey B, Ko-Jo Cue, Pappy Kojo, Stargo, Medal and Sarkodie), employs dexterous engineers (E.L, Magnom, B2, Slimbo, Dream Jay, Spiky, Jbux and Kuvie) and captains them with mastery for glory.

After gaining a strong ground, Shaker calls and fires shots amid love making, setbacks, hustle, pains and religiously reiterates his dedication to worshipping and communicating to the Supreme Being through prayers at all times.

As the Ghanaian tradition demands, Shaker welcomes all and sundry especially his avid supporters who have been behind him through thick and thin on “Woezo” – the first track on the album. After that, Shaker promises his mum, Mrs Jasmine Ameko, that he will make her proud. “Woezo” is an Ewe phrase which translates as “Welcome”.

Then Shaker rises and faces those who cast aspersions on him and says to their face that he has turned deaf ears to their false rumours and hatred on track 2 (“Madakraa” featuring Joey & E.L). Last year, Lil Shaker told Pulse TV that he has been a victim of cyberbullying thus he decided to record “Madakraa” and it magically exploded.

After standing that adversity, Shaker obtains psychological resilience and uses his experience to motivate and preach to others going through similar adversity saying, “God No Bed” (God isn’t asleep). Other tracks that steers towards motivating listeners include “Naagodey” (track 5), and “Silver and Gold” (track 7).

Eventually, Shaker meets a girl on his journey and ‘tout de suite’ falls in love with her. He makes promises and expresses his love for this girl who hardly hears him so Shaker screams “Hello”! so that the girl can hear his cry. “Hello” (featuring Sarkodie) hooks easily grab listeners’ attention. Track 7 titled “E No Be Hype” featuring Ko-Jo Cue sees Shaker fall in deep love with his lover due to her good morals and qualities. “Yellow Sisi” featuring Pappy Kojo, “Dadaada”, “Lord Have Mercy” and “Kpolikpo” are other romantic tracks on the album.

Producer Magnom then switches the Afrobeats streak and introduces Trap-laced Hip-hop instrumentation to test Shakers’ dexterity. Shaker steps up, drops ‘dreadful’ bars and introducers himself, Joey B and Pappy Kojo as the leaders of the ‘new skuul’ on “Aben Wo Ha” – one of the few humblebrags on the album.

Shaker takes a break to honour all mothers across the globe and charges them to “Pray” for their children. “Pray”, an Afro-pop track which features Shaker’s label mate, E.L, shows his belief in mama’s spiritual protection and why it’s necessary mums continue to “Pray” for their children.

Rounding up the album, Shaker provides scintillating hooks on a Reggae masterpiece “Do You” featuring Episode, spits fire on Hip-hop jam “Fire” featuring Medal, Stargo and Ko-Jo Cue, and closes with heart soothing traditional sound titled “So E Dey”.

At one point, Lil Shaker was one of a few voices who would earnestly toss himself into rarely charted lyrical waters without fear of sacrificing commercial appeal – a smart way to prove he is in no competition with anyone.

Topics on life experiences such as self-consciousness, social injustice, religion, commitment, backbite, sex, fame, love, affection, greed and envy is captured on “Captain Hook”. He was always innovative.

While sonically magnanimous, here, the Peki- VR born curator has little left to flex than artistry.

The album captures and hooks life experiences. Be it wedding or naming ceremony, church or funeral service, streets or ghetto, pubs or clubs, “Captain Hook” has got everything in life covered.

Over the years, some sections of Ghanaian music lovers have distracted from Shaker’s creative process – except, as he shows on “Captain Hook”, distraction is his creative process.

As it is said by legendary Bob Marley, “Who the cap fits, let them wear it”. Shaker has fought for the crown and worn it, please let him rule!

Tension Mounts Between Ampong And Daddy Lumba Over Album Launch Cash

daddy lumba and ampongSerious tension is mounting between gospel musician, Isaiah Ampong and hi-life legend, Daddy Lumba, over album launch proceeds.

Lumba and Ampong in 2015 collaborated to come out with an album entitled ‘Hosanna’ calling themselves Kwadwo & Kwadwo.

Checks by Adom FM’s Entertainment Hall indicate that the duo is not in good terms after the launch of the album.

Investigations have revealed that Daddy Lumba has not made things clear to Ampong after the album launch that happened in 2015. Ampong is also said to have received nothing from the launch and album sales proceeds.

It has also been revealed that about twenty thousand copies of CDs have so far been sold making the album very scarce on the market.

The cost of the album according to Adom FM is estimated to be GH¢31,000.

Again, Lumba and his team were reported to have run away with the proceeds generated at the album launch held at the Glorious Waves International without making Ampong aware whiles Lumba did not contribute towards the launch.

Ampong according to our source is still not privy to the exact amount generated from the launch which could be over GH¢100,000.

It has also been established that since the launch, Lumba is said not to be responding to the latter’s call.

When the issue emerged, some key Men of God have tried solving it but Lumba is seemed not to be reasoning up. Due to this, one of the Pastors who donated GH¢10,000 during the launch of the ‘Hossana’ album launch is calling for the return of the money since he believes it has gone to the wrong hands.

Ampong who has not yet spoken on the matter is poised to ‘vomit’ out some secrets if Lumba does not give him his share.

Attempt made to contact Lumba’s camp proved futile since the manager did not pick his phone.

Comments Over Mahama’s State Of The Nation Address Was For Jokes – DKB

dkb (6)Comedian DKB has explained that his tweet that questioned the nation president Mahama addressed at parliament on Thursday was for jokes. The king of Ghanaian comedy on Thursday tweeted that “#SOTNGhana Saying all this good works but we don’t see it. I wonder the nation he is addressing, sark nation? bhim nation? Or carnation?”

Some Ghanaians have misinterpreted this tweet, which had over 119 retweets. . DKB in an interview with Zionfelix.com early Friday morning stated that he made the comment just to put smiles on the faces of his followers but not to attack the president as it has been interpreted.

“I knew certainly that the president was addressing Ghana as a nation but for me as a comedian, I knew I was having fun on twitter. I felt to tweet something that was funny and they were in no way to fight the president because I’m not a political figure and I have nothing to do with politics.

All I wrote as just for fun so my main intention was not to make the president look bad or point holes in his work. In actual fact, I don’t have intention of criticizing NDC government or punching any holes in his state of the nation address “

The former Big Brother Africa rep continued that “a lot of people have fun on social media networks and I can’t be an exception to that because I also have freedom I enjoy but it is rather unfortunate that it came out as a political news worthy.”

DKB further apologised to those who are offended by his tweet.

“Anybody offended by the story should not take it serious because that is not what I intended to do. I was in one corner enjoying my tweets on a micro-blogging site twitter and it was taken as a political tool.”

When asked if he has received threats for the tweet, Derrick Kobina Bonney answered positively.

Mahama Hot For Swerving Creative Arts At State Of The Nation Address

mahamaEntertainment critics have raised their voices against president Mahama for not telling Ghanaians his plan for the creative arts industry when he appeared before parliament on Thursday to give the State of The Nation Address.

The President, in his delivery, which is the last in his four-year term, touched on several government social intervention programmes ranging from health, education and the economy but did not say anything about the creative arts industry. Pundits who took to social media network to comment on the president’s State of The nation Address expressed disappointment in the president.

Mr. Speaker, in conclusion, the Creative Arts can go to…….Okay! Never even mind, change is happening…. Ay3 Ka! Lol” Kleff Maxwell Justice

“Obinim must visit the presidency tonight for us. How could he have left out creative arts #‎ObinimNeWoPapaMustIntervane‬ Okyemanba Yaw Appiah Gunner

“After hours of sitting in front of the television to listen to the State of the Nation Address ‪#‎SOTN‬ by the president, nothing on Arts and Entertainment was mentioned. Hmmmm, what a pity. ‪#‎OHWHEN‬!! Now I join @dkbghana, Don DKB to ask, Which nation was he addressing? Bhim Nation, Sark Nation or my nation Anus Nation or as Ajeezay De Nonfaking will say Beast of No Nation?
‪#‎OBINIM‬ if there is anything you can turn into to help this is the time.” Foster Romanus

“This morning, prior to the President’s delivery of his State Of the Nations address to parliament, all the political newspapers captured it on their front pages giving us some of the things he said last year and what they were expecting him to say today.Even business and financial newspapers did same.Political morning shows of course couldnt be left out. They thoroughly discussed the issue.I stand to be corrected though but i dont recall any entertainment newspaper from Graphic showbiz,to flex newspaper, razz newspaper or even news one in dailt guide capturing it even at their back pages.Neither did entertainment shows from the almighty AM Pluzz down to the rest even give their pannel members two minutes each. What does this mean??.That they didnt care about what the president had for them??. Well,i hope they arent, disappointed in the president for not making any tangible statement on the sector that they so cheerish.Anyway‪#‎fingerscrossed‬” – Fusein Addul
.
.
“The man was there to campaign. How many votes will talking about the arts bring to him? He will rather give mentions to the barbers, roads in villages and the likes. Sports has less than 2 minutes. #Priorities” – abdullai ‘isshak
.
.
“Our President, today, in his State of the Nation’s Address did not talk about the arts. I was not surprised but it tells me one thing – that creative artists need to put much pressure on powers that be to think about us.But that would be elusive if stakeholders of the arts, including the entertainment media are reluctant to talk about political issues that have bearing on the arts. It would not be possible when the entertainment media cannot even get economic experts to help them analyse the GDP of the music industry to Ghana’s economy. They won’t even read manifestoes of political parties to know which has made provisions for the arts.

It is clear, the policy makers do not think about us – so we ain’t gonna sleep. Let’s keep pushing them till they ‘think arts.’

Opinion: VGMA Board Must Be Dissolved For The Awards Scheme To Be Credible

$
0
0

george quayeI think the VGMA Board must be dissolved for lack of independence from the organisers of the event, Charter House.
The board has to be independent to guarantee the impartiality and merit that awards schemes seem to portray.
As it is now, the VGMA board has a heavy and influential presence of Charterhouse making them lose focus of the core mandate of using their technical knowledge to select and nominate musicians who have distinguished themselves in music works under a particular year under review to a disciplinary committee. They are now presiding over insults hurled at them and overlooking the mission of scrutinizing music by selecting and nominating potential award winners.
Normally an event organiser should not influence the award scheme and have to just make sure the necessary logistics and process are set in place.
The organisers, Charter House should appoint a board of competent professionals in music business, such as, sound engineers, composers, music presenters, publishers, and a critic  etc, who will use their skill in dealing with the selection and nomination procedure by allowing the public to vote where they have to and the board also vote on technical categories which the general public cannot do because of the lack of knowledge.
Or an academy must be formed, which is more credible since the numbers are larger and the chances of influence is slimmer.
The event organiser, as a duty, should facilitate all these stages and plan how best the event can go on without any hitches.
As it is now, the board chairman of the VGMA is  Nii Ayite Hammond, who is the head of production at  Charter House, the CEO and his wife are also on the board. To top it up, the public relations man, George Quaye is also a board member. I think if the organisers should even be represented on the board, that official shall just be an observer to cater for their welfare. The board should ideally have a Public Relations Officer selected from amongst them.
Charter House has thrown all these ethics to the dogs and is wallowing in a conflict of interest position. They are now the watchdogs and the gatekeeper there by looks as if they are influencing the board unduly.
I believe if the board is dissolved and re constituted without Charterhouse presence, there will be hope for those who believe the award scheme is not credible.
We are all aware of the court case pending in which Charterhouse has sued Shattawale for defamation. For me its not surprising Shattawale was not nominated, since the board chair is a long working senior staff member.

bisa kdei (12)Charterhouse, organisers of the annual Ghana Music Awards have reacted to rumours that Bisa Kdei’s popular song, ‘Brother Brother’ was banned from this year’s awards due to the  ‘forking’ word in the song. George Quaye, PRO for the event company speaking to Dr. Cann on Happy FM in Accra stated that the song was not banned but they nominated ‘Mansa’ because of the good intention they have for the artiste.

“You can’t put all of his popular songs in the same category. He will get divided votes and other songs in the same category will take advantage of that to get more votes, so we did that in consultation with him. The song wasn’t banned as speculated.”

Bisa Kdei had nominations for Artiste of the year, highlife song of the year, music producer of the year, most popular song of the year, album of the year and highlife artiste of the year categories.
