Amandah Jissih, a TV cum radio presenter has been hosting shows for years. Her ability to interview guests on her show is one of a kind and its versatility will keep you glued to your seat till the show eds. Aside her radio and TV business, she is also an actress, a musician and has a joint company with her mum where they bake – this lady here is really bagging money in her accounts.
Don’t forget she is the one who tried to carry Okyeame Kwame at the Ghana meets Naija concert somewhere last year but she unfortunately recorded her name as the female celebrity with the greatest fall ever in the entertainment industry on stage. She talks about her career, what she has been hiding from the public and many others with News One’s reporter Francis Addo.
Amanda Jissih, host of E-Talk on GhOne TV, is a celebrated female TV and radio presenter, actress, musician and artiste manager.
The beautiful lady who hails from Cape Coast tells NEWS-ONE’s Francis Addo in this exclusive interview all about herself, including things she has never put into the public domain.
I heard you cried a lot at Ronnie’s burial.
Oh Francis, so someone had time watching me cry?
What is your fondest memory of him?
His laughter, jokes, and how he insists on what he wants to wear for every show, especially when the team wants something different. He loved chocolates so whenever we needed him to show up for an interview, we had to buy him chocolates. He was human. He had passion for music. He had a big plan and dream.
What was your last encounter with Ronnie?
He called and said we needed to meet and talk about how to plan and promote their latest singles. I was at church and promised to get back to him.
What do you think about Buk Bak without Ronnie?
Very incomplete, things will never be the same again. He was unique in his own way. There’s only one Ronnie.
You have been close to the group?
You have gotten me very emotional Francis. I don’t think I want do this interview.
I’m Sorry! Who is Amanda in the industry?
I am a woman of not just many colours but bright colours; a multitalented woman who has love for quality entertainment.
Have you always wanted this career?
I wanted to be a dermatologist and cosmetologist when I was in lower grade then I thought of becoming a gynaecologist but I can’t stand blood. All this while, I had a hidden passion for working in the media. The passion grew. I have been on Kyekyekule, Kwasaasa, Fun World and By The Fire Side. I realized I wanted this more. As a kid too, I had lots of friends in the media who made it more loveable.
When did you join Multimedia?
In 2006. Working there has been challenging and a learning process at the same time.
What keeps Amanda moving in this business?
God, my family and my responsibilities. The dream of becoming great and apart from that, my passion plays a very important role as well.
You interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment.
Wyclef, Bow Wow, Tuface, Eve, Jerry Wonder, Jah Rule, Keisha Cole, Don Moen, Kenny Latimore , Morris Chestnut, Rockmond, Kimberly Elise, Busta Rhymes, Akon Rich Bonna, D’banj, MI, Sarkodie, Ice Prince, JJ Rawlings just to mention a few. They all talked about passion. Have passion for what you do and accept criticisms. And I have always had passion for my job. So it made lots of sense. Lest I forget, Larry Benson of Choice FM played an important role in my entrance to radio.
What criticisms do you get?
Few and I never get angry. But when you go extreme I sure won’t go easy on you. If you lie, I will surely correct you. I don’t live a life I can’t afford. I repeat shoes and clothes and I see nothing wrong with it. I don’t live a pretentious life. I was bashed for repeating a shoe. It didn’t make sense to me so I called the presenter and reminded her that a shoe is not a toilet paper. There are some peeps who will always find fault. Those ones I don’t even pay attention to. I just move on. There are some critics I even call to thank them.
Some say Amanda is controversial.
They just don’t know me. All they know is what they hear.
How do you interview people you are not cool with?
I do those interviews better. I don’t hold grudges. But I am careful. I don’t mix my personal issues with work. The moment you’re on my set, you are my guest.
What’s the difference between TV and Radio presentation?
Both are live shows. Only difference is the camera. I can scratch my buttocks on radio because nobody is watching. But not on TV, I am extra cautious. They are almost the same. On radio I control the console. So I break when I want to but TV is different. I hide more moods on TV than radio.
What’s the main idea behind E-Talk?
All round entertainment talk show for both young and old, from movies through sports to arts, etc.
What’s your impression about Entertainment Television in Ghana?
A whole lot of improvement is needed.
Will you allow your children to follow your footsteps, career wise?
Certainly…it’s easier too because I know this field so I can advise and monitor them better and make sure they don’t repeat my mistakes because I would want them to be better than I am.
Is Amanda successful?
Who is rich? One who drives the best of cars and has it all but doesn’t know God and doesn’t pay his tithe? I am very successful by God’s grace.
Are you a strong Christian?
Hahaha…wasn’t but now I am.
If you are not on TV or Radio, where can we find you?
Sometimes on a movie set or in the church. I also go to the beach a lot to read or you will find me home baking or cooking because I take orders for events. I ran a catering business with my mum.
Is Mandy thinking about pursuing music career full time?
Hahaha I love music. It’s one of the reasons why I got into radio. Most definitely, music has come to stay. I haven’t even started.
What are your plans for Val’s Day?
Hahaha…I have invitations for different events. Not sure yet but I have to be on a movie set. I am just waiting for confirmation. I may end up at an all night service. I usually send few gifts around or call few friends who have been good to me to say thank you.
I thought you would hang out with the man in your life?
If God permits.
Who is he anyway?
He is the one who knows all my past mistakes and still wants to be there for me. He is the one who knows my entire past, fault, mistakes and still wants to be there for me and loves me unconditionally.
He doesn’t have a name?
His name is bro gentleman.
What does he do?
He’s a hard working gentleman. I will let you meet him; only you.
I thought you were dating Jesus that was why they call you Amanda Jesus?
When I was a kid I couldn’t pronounce my surname. I was like 2-year-old. I pronounced Jissih as Jesus. Yes, Jesus lives in me.
