Bawumia has destroyed my potential deals with other political parties – DJ Azonto opens up

DJ Azonto has voiced his frustration over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s use of his song during a campaign event, claiming it disrupted potential deals with other political parties.

The incident occurred at a presidential campaign event in Nalerigu, North East region, where Dr. Bawumia was seen dancing to DJ Azonto’s song “without prior permission”.

According to DJ Azonto, his management team was neither approached for authorization nor compensated for the use of the song in the high-profile event.

This unauthorized use, he claims, led to the collapse of negotiations with several political parties that were considering using his song for their own campaigns.

In response to what they view as a violation of intellectual property rights, DJ Azonto’s management, the Rolls Royce Family, is demanding $10 million in compensation.

They argue that this amount reflects the song’s value and the damages incurred due to its misuse.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Showtym with Andy Dosty, DJ Azonto emphasized the seriousness of the matter, urging respect for copyright laws and intellectual property rights.

He highlighted the willingness of musicians and the entertainment industry to collaborate with political candidates, provided proper channels are followed and permissions are obtained.

The demand for compensation underscores the broader issue of intellectual property rights in the music industry, emphasizing the need for legal compliance and respect for artists’ work.

Renowned Ghanaian rapper Vincent Kwaku Osei, popularly known as Strongman, has announced a shift in his focus away from the prestigious Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Despite being a consistent contender in the Best Rapper category for five consecutive years, Strongman has decided not to prioritize these awards due to repeated losses.

Strongman, who is once again nominated for Best Rapper this year with his hit song “Dear God,” shared his sentiments in a recent interview on Akoma FM’s “Akoma Mmre” with Tony Best.

He candidly revealed that his expectations for the awards night have significantly diminished.

“I have been nominated for the Best Rapper category five times in a row but have yet to win. This year, I am nominated again with ‘Dear God,’ but honestly, I no longer hold high expectations for the awards night,”

“I always submit my work for consideration, but I don’t get recognized. Therefore, I need to devote my time and attention to things that make me more relevant and always entertain my fans,” he stated.

He explained that the continuous pattern of nominations without wins has led him to shift his focus elsewhere.

She told them not to rely on their men all the time.

After childbirth, Nikki said it’s the responsibility of both parties to take care of the child.

She stated that it is not the best for women to depend solely on men when speaking on TV3’s ‘The Ladies Circle’.

Since anything can happen in the future, the actress said women will be able to take care of their kids if they build a better future and the man is not available.

“I don’t see it as a man’s responsibility or a woman’s responsibility. So far as you have produced a child, it is your responsibility. However, if he [the man] decides to leave and he does not take that responsibility or she doesn’t take that responsibility, you have to take the responsibility for both of you. It’s unfortunate. We have to come to the reality that life is not all rosy.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean him leaving, what if he dies? You need to be able to keep in mind that I want to be a responsible woman so I do not rely on the man all the time so I can do something for myself,” Nikki Samonas explained.

The vocal actress added that a lot needs to be done to seek accountability from leaders.

“Now we are doing well. We have come a long way…I see a lot of young people trying and it is not easy but then there are also people who say shut up, it is politics…We have a lot more to do. I am amazed at the young people in this country are just fantastic because they are trying,” Lydia Forson said.

The Ghana Police Service has moved to halt the planned #DumsorMustStop demonstration, slated for May 25, 2024.

Renowned producer and actress Yvonne Nelson is organizing the protest, which is intended to voice opposition to Ghana’s unstable power supply.

Earlier reports indicated that it was scheduled to take place at Revolution Square in Accra. However, per the new information that has come to light, the Ghana Police Service has filed an injunction at the Accra High Court to prohibit the event.

On May 20, 2024, Superintendent Isaac Nicholas Kwabena Yeboah, representing the Ghana Police Service, submitted an affidavit requesting the court to issue an order to prevent the organizers from holding the demonstration. The application explicitly reads:

“TAKE NOTICE that this Honourable Court shall be moved by Counsel for and on behalf of the Applicant herein praying this Honourable Court for an order prohibiting the respondents from holding an intended picketing fixed for 25th May, 2024 at the Revolution Square, upon the grounds contained in the accompanying affidavit and for such further order(s) as this Honourable Court may deem fit.”

The Ghana Police Service has cited significant security concerns as the primary reason for this legal move. Specifically, the proximity of Revolution Square to Jubilee House, the seat of government and a designated high-security zone, raises substantial safety risks, according to the police.

Given the sensitive nature of the location and the potential for disruption, particularly in the lead-up to the forthcoming elections, the police argue that the demonstration poses an unacceptable security threat.

In their submission, the police have suggested that the organizers reconsider the location for their picketing to ensure public safety and order. This proposal aims to strike a balance between the right to protest and the imperative of maintaining security and public order in a politically charged environment.

The court is scheduled to hear the police’s motion on May 24, 2024, just a day before the planned protest.

The planned demonstration is part of the #DumsorMustStop campaign, a citizen-led movement initiated in 2015, that has seen renewed activity in 2024 due to a resurgence in power outages across the country.

Leading figures such as actress Yvonne Nelson, along with Selorm Dramani Dzramado and Henry Osei Akoto, have been at the forefront of this movement. Their notice of intended picketing was submitted to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command earlier this month.

Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, has made an appeal to the government.

She appealed to the government to treat Ghanaian entertainers with equal respect given to diasporan stars.

Lydia was unhappy about how some foreign entertainers are given access to state properties, meanwhile, Ghanaian entertainers do not have access.

According to her, Nigerians will never give “better treatment to an outsider” than their own people.

“…and give them an access that you will never give me. An access to helicopters, to hotels, to discounts, to do Hip hop ray at Jubilee House that you will not give me, it is a mindset…I have no problem with them bringing entertainers because I have a lot of great friends outside who come to town.

“Let me give you an example. If you go to Lagos, I hate these comparisons but it’s the reality. They will never treat an outsider better than they will treat you, they will treat you on the same level.

“So, if you’ve invited this person here and say that Lydia we are trying to take this person to this safari, come along,” she said on The Day Show on TV3.

“We have to treat ourselves with the same kind of respect and other people will respect us,” Lydia Forson added.

She, however, applauded a chief who acknowledged her in the presence of some Hollywood stars after they paid a courtesy call to him.

The Industry Is Being Killed By Power Struggle In Actors Guild – Fred Amugi Discloses

$

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Fred Amugi, has talked about what is hindering the growth of the movie industry.

He cited the power struggle at the Actors Guild of Ghana as a huge challenge.

Since there has been no effective leadership functioning after the death of Reverend Eddie Coffie, who was the President of the guild, in 2016, Mr Amugi said things have not been the same.

Lamenting the Guild’s inability to elect a new leader, he prayed issues would be settled.

“The film industry is like any other business. It has its ups and downs. However, for the past few years, it’s been having issues of power struggles and conflicts, especially within the Ghana Actors Guild.

“This has led to a decline in productivity and quality because what’s being produced is not checked. We’re lucky to have Akwaaba Magic on DStv, which has provided a platform for our films. They’ve been supportive and willing to work with us, and the films they show are good. If we keep making good films, we’ll benefit from their support.

“Unfortunately, Nigeria’s film industry is ahead of ours. They have more opportunities with subscription-based streaming services such as Netflix, and we need to work together to catch up,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

READ ALSO: The Nak3d Photo I Took With My Son Is Seriously Haunting Me – Akuapem Poloo Admits

He also raised a concern about the lack of collaboration in the industry.

“The film industry in Ghana needs unity. Currently, everyone is working alone because they’re afraid of being copied. The truth, however, is that no matter how much we know, someone else always knows more. If we work together in unity, we could make great films that showcase our different talents and perspectives.

“If we are united, we could even gain enough recognition in prestigious awards such as the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA),” Fred Amugi stated.
